Event Information

With its modern design-focused templates and ‘clean’ look Squarespace has been widely adopted by food writers, bloggers and restaurateurs alike as their favoured platform for presenting their work to the world. While often commended as having the ‘easiest interface’ and being ‘supremely simple’ to use, it’s nonetheless anxiety-inducing to many writers taking those first steps in website building, thanks partly to a rather dazzling choice of templates.

As part of our Professional Masterclass series, we have asked Squarespace authorised trainer Katy Carlisle to give an intensive, hands-on introduction to setting up a Squarespace website from the perspective of a food writer.

Over the past six years Katy has created over 100 websites for freelancers, small businesses and charities and promises sound training on how to make the most from Squarespace, in a friendly, fun and jargon-free
environment. The four-hour workshop will include:

  • A pre-workshop video covering what to consider before starting your website and some homework so that attendees get the most from the session.
  • A hands-on experience where you can learn how to get started and find out about features and tips you might otherwise miss.
  • Tips on choosing a template (as this can be a bit overwhelming).
  • How to add content and change the design.
  • Capturing information for a mailing list and linking your social media.
  • How to link your Squarespace site to your domain.
  • A post-workshop checklist you can use to make sure everything is ready to go live.
  • A 20% discount in your first year of using Squarespace.

Please bring a laptop – ideally fully charged, but power sockets will be available for plugging in chargers.

This is a members-only event restricted to 12 attendees to ensure a proper hands-on experience in which individual questions can be addressed. Places are subsidised by the Guild and cost £65 (short day courses typically cost £200-£250).
