Chasing Chocolate’s Rich History in Ecuador

Ecuador is now thought to be the birthplace of chocolate, with evidence showing cacao was processed here up to 5,000 years ago. Guild member Gavin Wren recently completed a nine-month tour of Latin America, which included a photography commission for National Geographic Traveller Food, seeing how cacao fits into culture and tourism, in this small South American country. From nature reserves to fine dining menus and chocolate aged in cognac barrels, cacao is being truly embraced creatively by Ecuadorean businesses.
