September 2019 Instagram Photo Challenge
05 September 2019
Following the success of our last event in October 2017, we are delighted to announce the GFW Instagram Challenge 2019. If you’re new to Instagram, it’s a brilliant way to get to grips with the platform - if you’re an old hand, this should help you grow your following.
So dust off your camera (or Iphone) now - because we’re kicking off on Sunday 1 September.
It all happens over on the GFW Instagram account thegfw. If you’re not yet following us, now is the time.
Here is how it works: every day throughout September, there will be a topic which you will use to inspire your choice of photo for the day. It is just the same as a daily writing prompt, except here the word should prompt you to post a photo on your Instagram feed. You can post at any time of day or night, this is not time sensitive. We will publish the weekly word list on the Guild’s Facebook Forum, and if you’re not on that, you’ll also find it on the GFW Instagram account thegfw as a photo post, so it will be handy.
This is a perfect opportunity to go back through your archive! Use what you have, no matter how old; each topic will be suitable for something. However, by all means, feel free to take a photo specifically if you like.
There is no right and wrong image, and you do not have to take a photo for every single day but you should use photos which you have taken; no stock images and nothing where you do not own the copyright.
You can look at the topics in advance to plan what photo you want to use and this is recommended. Social media can be time consuming so if you plan each week in advance by choosing the photos ahead of time, and possibly even writing the captions (to copy and paste later) it will be very easy to participate every day. You don't have to do it every day, but we do encourage you to try.
To identify your photo as part of the GFW challenge, the caption for every single image MUST contain two hashtags:
#igphotoproject_gfw (the main hashtag which stays the same the entire month)
#gfw_sept1 (the date hashtag, which will change everyday)
The hashtags must be in the caption otherwise the image will fall out of the Photo Challenge radar. The best place to put them is at the end of your text so they do not interfere with your writing. It helps if you mention the topic of the day in your post. Use the hashtags; if misspelt, they do not work so be vigilant.
The GFW Instagram Photo Challenge is being coordinated by Guild member Laura Hutton (laurahutton.co). If you have ANY queries about the challenge please email Laura at email@example.com. Alternatively, post queries on the GFW Facebook Group, tagging Laura.
