Carolyn Humphries

I am an NCTJ-trained journalist and passionate about food. I also studied Home Economics but started my food career as a chef, then a spell in restaurant management. I became a cookery writer for 'Woman' in the late 1970s, then a cookery editor. I am now freelance. I promote healthy eating for everyone and care deeply about what we eat and where it comes from. I have written over 60 books on a diverse range of topics from gluten-free bread and cakes to celebrating the best of British seasonal produce.

Special subjects

Creative recipe writing - delicious nutritious food that's easy to make for every day and special occasions; special diets, including food allergies; family health and nutrition; gadget-related recipes to make the most of kitchen equipment.

Regular work

In recent years, mostly writing and editing cookery books and occasional restaurant reviews. I also do consultancy work for various publishers.

Judge on the Great Taste Awards annually for The Guild of Fine Foods. Member of the Institute of Health Promotion and Education.
