Martin Hesp

At the age of 65 I have spent all my life (since 17) working as a journalist. For the majority of those years I have been a feature writer - and the majority of that work has concentrated on food and travel. Now, as Editorial Director of the specialist company RAW Food & Drink PR, I earn just about all my living writing about food and drink. In that role I now produce a weekly double page spread on food and drink for the large regional daily, the Western Morning News.

Special subjects

My food writing has always been extremely general - I write everything from cookery book reviews to in-depth pieces on regenerative farming. I also do a lot of location cooking and photography in order to facilitate the ever-hungry requirements demanded by a weekly double page spread.

Regular work

Editorial Director of RAW Food & Drink PR - writing and editing press releases and also formulating new ideas for articles to be submitted to newspapers and magazines. I also edit RAW's own news website and my own food and travel website. And, as mentioned, I write and edit the weekly double page food and drink spread in the Western Morning News and this often duplicated in other Reach titles.

During 47 years in journalism I have won many awards, including regional Columnist of the Year, Feature Writer of the Year, and Environmental Writer of the Year

Commercial interests

My role as Editorial Director for RAW Food and Drink PR is a consultative position for which I do a minimum of 21 hours a week.
