Claire Ruston

Winner of the GFW Newcomer Award 2023. I’ve been a freelance writer and ghostwriter for 10 years, and prior to that, I worked in non-fiction book publishing (as commissioning editor) for 10 years. In 2010, my partner and I bought a dilapidated house in Bulgaria’s Balkan Mountains – a move that prompted a whole new journey into growing our own food (having never had a garden before) and cooking creatively from scratch (because our nearest supermarket is a 50-mile round trip). I’m passionate about helping people eat more plants, garden where they can, and generally live a slower life. As such, I write about vegan and plant-based cooking, and edible gardening. I also write about Balkan food and the joy of adopting a second food culture. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me in my garden, muttering about weeds and wondering what to do with all those courgettes.
