A former executive chef and restaurant manager, I try to cook good food and write about it in the wonderful Channel Islands. I’ve worked in probably just about every type of hospitality business you can imagine, from beachside burger joints to famous pizza and jazz bars, in more than a few really good food pubs, historic country inns, and a former RAC Blue Ribbon UK Hotel of the Year.
I love cooking ( and eating ) Chinese, Italian, and sticky smoky BBQ food as well as lots of fish and seafood. I think I may have a serious cheese addiction and more than a bit of a thing for retro dishes, I just love a good prawn cocktail. I am partial to a nice glass of wine or beer with my dinner, and I recently passed my WSET level two wine training and post about my wine discoveries online. I regularly write about beer and food for the Campaign for Real Ale.
I am lucky enough to now live in Jersey where I worked for over ten years for the local brewery. The Channel Islands are blessed with an abundance of amazing artisan food and drink, from growers, farmers, fishermen, and producers across Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm. They make fantastic cakes, pickles, sweets, milk and cheese, award-winning beer, and small-batch spirits. They grow and catch hand-dived scallops, oysters, sumptuous seafood, the world-famous Jersey Royals, rare breed pigs, and Jersey and Guernsey cattle. I hope in my writing I can share some of my passion for this bounty and food in general.
