I am a freelance recipe writer, food stylist and home economist based in Winchester in the South of England. I’ve worked with a number of clients, photographers and marketing agencies over the years on editorial, packaging and social media campaigns.
Food, by its nature, is ephemeral: as soon as it’s enjoyed, it’s gone. Great food styling can take a product or a recipe and enable all of those flavours to live on. Similarly, a well-written recipe can enable someone to recreate a flavour from their past, or even discover a dish they’ve never tasted before. As a writer, I love to find the best combination of words to guide people in their own kitchens. I’ve written recipes for commercial clients, book publishers and magazines, both as myself and as a ghost writer.
Before becoming a full-time freelancer, I worked for county food group Hampshire Fare, where my respect for local food producers truly grew. My proudest achievement during that time was setting up ‘Preserving the Hampshire Hog’. The project provided Hampshire pig farmers with the skills they needed to turn their world-class pork into lucrative charcuterie at a time when farms were losing money on every carcass they sold. Over a decade on, I still get a kick every time I pass a market stall selling Hampshire cured ham or salami.
