Gabe Cook, aka The Ciderologist

Global cider expert launches new cider membership business

Gabe has launched a Patreon page and seeks to bring together a worldwide cider community.

Gabe explains: ’Prior to Covid-19, cider was undergoing unprecedented growth, progress and excitement, but like all drinks categories, has been hit hard over the last two years. Through the pandemic, much of my work has switched online, which has enabled me to connect with cider makers, servers and fans across the planet. The Ciderologist Patreon enables me to bring this cider community together to learn, share and entertain.’

The Patreon platform enables subscribers to pay a monthly fee to gain access to exclusive content, with different tiers of rising cost unlocking increasing quantities of benefit.
‘People signing up for the Stinking Bishop Tier, for example, will be able to access exclusive articles, news round ups, cider maker interviews, online chat rooms, free merchandise, discounts with cider makers and live tasting sessions,‘ Gabe tells us.

Although UK-based, the Ciderologist operates as a global business, having taken Gabe as far afield as Norway, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Japan. ‘Every country has an entirely unique cider heritage and culture, which I love exploring and sharing,’ he says. ‘This membership club will enable cider fans to come together in a singular place, not matter where in the world they are. It’s going to be a lot of fun.’

Award-winning Pommelier courses return in 2022

Gabe has also announced new dates for his award-winning Pommelier courses. Run through the Beer and Cider Academy (BACA), this series of cider courses is aimed towards cider enthusiasts and professionals alike, arming them with the knowledge and skills to be able to understand, identify and advocate different styles of cider.

Qualified Pommelier and drinks industry stalwart, Jane Peyton, says, ‘If ever there was a time to study cider and become accredited as a Pommelier it is now because cider is in the ascendancy! This series of engaging and comprehensive courses has given me the knowledge and tools to write, talk, and advocate about cider. I highly recommend them to anyone who seeks to bring cider into their repertoire.’

For the first time, as well as being run in London, the courses will also be offered in Manchester, Bristol and Herefordshire, enabling participation from people based all across the UK.
