Event Information

Following overwhelmingly positive feedback from our event with Mallika Basu on Wednesday 13 January, we are very pleased to be able to offer you a re-run of the event, following many requests from members. As before, this session will not be recorded to protect Mallika's copyright, as this workshop is usually offered as paid-for training for organisations in the food industry. If you missed the last workshop, or indeed wish to listen to it again, please do book a place.

In an age of heightened social and cultural awareness, how do you understand and address perceptions and expectations when you write and test recipes? How do you tread the fine line between meeting the needs of your readers and followers, without unwittingly causing offence? And what are the common pitfalls to avoid? Guild member Mallika Basu, a food communications consultant and the co-founder of SIZL Spices, is running a session to address these important questions for her fellow members.

The session will cover key watchouts, real life examples from 'ethnic' food writers, as well as Mallika's own experience from growing up in India, writing about food in the UK for the London Evening Standard and publishing two cookbooks. It was previously delivered to the editorial team of BBC Good Food and olive, and was inspired by Mallika's recent food writing and communications courses at the British Library.

This session will take place through Zoom. Please email Guild administrator Jonathan Woods jonathan@gfw.co.uk to register Jonathan will then send you details of how to access the event on Zoom.
