The Food Briefing: August 2021

Part two of Henry Dimbleby’s National Food Strategy report was released last week. You can find the full report here and some lovely diagrams that help to explain everything here for your social media. It’s a well-balanced piece of work, which is supposed to inform the government’s own white paper on food strategy. The big question is whether any changes or legislation will come out of this whole process, and given the Prime Minister has already rejected sugar and salt taxes, the report needs as much support as it can get.

This week sees the start of the United Nations Food Systems Summit with the Pre-Summit events. Aiming to find a way to support the Sustainable Development Goals, whilst providing food systems that serve people and planet, the summit has attracted support and criticism in equal measure. Find the recordings of events here.

The Consumer Brand is a new food sourcing platform where users collaborate to set the standards for their food, ensuring solid environmental credentials and that farmers are paid a fair price for their work. Starting with ‘It’s up to you’ flour, available at FWP Matthews, the next step is eggs. Join the platform and have your say here.
