Deanna Thomas

I am a former chef who got into food blogging when I had children. In the past decade or so this has turned into paid commissions which have included writing food and travel features, interviews with chefs and producers, first look pieces, restaurant reviews, round ups, listings and opinion pieces for several local publications. I also worked my way up to the position of Editor, which involved commissioning work from teams of staff and freelance writers. My professional experience in kitchens (and as a former deli owner) has given me a unique insight and works well with my natural ability to tell a good story. I have been on various judging panels including Manchester Food and Drink Festival, Top 100 Restaurants in the North, International Cheese and Dairy Awards and Manchester Tourism Awards. I am also a confident presenter and have hosted the chef demo stages at Northern Restaurant & Bar Show, Taste Cheshire Food & Drink Festival, and Manchester Food and Drink Festival. Last year I presented on live television as a 'food expert' on the daytime programme Stef's Packed Lunch several times. I am currently (paid) part time features editor of About Manchester, was recently the Exec Editor of Taste Manchester and have previously written for The Confidentials (Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester), Lancashire Life and I Love Manchester amongst others. I am also social media savvy and even have my own TikTok channel where I showcase local restaurants. I have completed my WSET Level 1 but am very keen to continue my wine learning journey. My food writing journey has also evolved into some travel writing (food based) which I am hoping to expand upon.
