Alexina Anatole

Thank you for considering my application to the Guild of Food Writers. My name is Alexina and I am a cook who researches, writes and talks about flavour. I approach flavour through science and how it appears across cultures, then I translate this into delicious food in the kitchen. My debut cookbook, Bitter, will be published by Penguin on 28th September 2023. It represents the first in a series on the five tastes, with my second cookbook, Sweet, to be published February 2025. I came to the food world in my late 20s, after reaching the final of MasterChef in 2021. Since the show I have been working in food full-time. I am of mixed heritage -- the granddaughter of chicken farmers from Cambridgeshire, and Saint Lucian grandparents who arrived in London during the time of the Windrush movement -- and this mix informs my approach to food and flavour.
